Captivate Your Audience with Storytelling

I’ve been to a lot of public speaking events in my life. I’ve seen some amazing talks and I’ve seen some so-so talks. While the amazing talks can be funny, share a poignant message, or back up their points with strong evidence, that’s not what separates an amazing talk from a so-so talk. What makes a message stand out is always storytelling.

This workshop is for anybody that regularly speaks to large groups and wants to leave a lasting impression with storytelling. Public speaking is one of the most important opportunities you can have to connect with an audience of potential clients, customers and influencers. Typically you’ll have a captive audience specifically suited for your message. By taking advantage of these moments to deliver a memorable and engaging talk you can plant yourself at the top of their minds right then and far into the future.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Why storytelling is important, including how humans understand the world through storytelling and the effect storytelling has on the human brain.

  • How storytelling paints a picture and creates an emotional reaction in the audience.

  • How to structure a story so there is a challenge that piques the listeners interest.

  • A step-by-step process for crafting stories for any speaking engagement.

  • A framework for how storytelling can be used anecdotally and as a foundation for your entire message.

  • How to uncover the stories you want to share to get the most impact.

  • How to sharing feedback and recognize good stories when you encounter them.

How it Will Work:

This will be an online collaborative workshop. We’ll be crafting stories together in session and sharing feedback with each other as we go. At the end of the session you should have a basic story planned out that you can incorporate into your next public talk. You’ll also have a better understanding of how storytelling works so you can craft future stories on your own too.

After a basic intro and background on storytelling, I’m going to go through a step-by-step process of crafting a story around different elements of storytelling. We’ll discuss each element briefly with the group, I’ll give you time to write out how that element might apply to your story, and we’ll share feedback amongst ourselves. The direct feedback from all the participants in the workshop can be incredibly helpful in crafting your own story, but also in thinking critically about storytelling as you help others with feedback too.

Note: This workshop is going to be heavily focused on the content oriented aspects of storytelling in front of an audience. If you’re looking for more of a point-by-point workshop on how to stand and direct the audience etc, this is not the right workshop for that.

Other Added Bonuses:

  • The workshop slidedeck and storytelling worksheets for additional reference.

  • A digital recording of the workshop for future reference.

  • An optional 20-minute, pre-workshop phone consultation to help you get the most out of the experience.

  • The option to schedule additional one-on-one consulting with me for a reduced rate.

  • You will finish the workshop with the basic outline of a story completed and ready to go.

This is going to be an online workshop, meaning you’ll be able to join us from your home, office, or where ever you’ll be at the time. The platform we’ll be using for the online workshop will either be CrowdCast or Google Hangouts. I’ve found those to be the easiest and most reliable. You’ll receive a link inviting you to the room as we get closer to the date.

The price for this workshop will be $109, with an earlybird rate of $89 available through December 28.

Looking forward to seeing you in the workshop!
